Life and thought of the Christian community from its founding to the end of the 5th century. Study of the advent of Jesus in the Graeco-Roman world; the formation of primitive churches; the rise of Christian liturgy and theology; the relations with Juadism, Oriental religions, and the Roman state; missionary advance; the great persections; the conversion of Constantine; the maturation of Christian thought; and the emerging division of East and West.
